Alessi Michael Graves Kettle With Bird Shaped Whistle Black

Melted Whistle
This is a beautiful kettle. I had owned the original for years and eventually, a year ago, bought this new "Special Edition" black one. Tonight, while boiling water for tea, the inside of the black whistle actually melted into the spout. Even if I could replace the melted whistle, the inside kettle spout is coated in now-hardened black plastic. This is a terrible design flaw and of course it seems impossible to contact anyone at Alessi in order to get a replacement.

An artistically beautiful tea kettle that is also practical
This is a useful and artistically beautiful kettle. The whistle is not too loud but it whistles. You need to remove the bird whistle before pouring the hot water out and do not forget to use a glove as the escaping steam may burn your fingers.

This kettle was considered a classic piece of modern art to merit a spot at the Musem of Modern Art in New York City (I believe the version there is the anodized one which is no longer sold in the USA).

If you lose the whistle, you can replace it for under $15.00 depending where you purchase it from.

If you do not care about a beautiful piece of art in your kitchen then this kettle is not for you.

You'll hear a click to know that you've done it properly. If there is any opening from the improperly placed lid, the...

ALESSI MICHAEL GRAVES KETTLE IS FOR THE BIRDS
Since I was moving, I didn't have a chance to use the kettle until the return period had expired. The Whistle doesn't whistle. The handle gets very hot, and the "Alessi" sticker is impossible to remove, then melts from heat. It's not a good kettle from any viewpoint except that it looks good. If you want a usable tea kettle, find another one.
